Virtual conference: Scaling up a Sustainable Transition: Building back better and greener

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development and the International Chamber of Commerce are co-organising a virtual business-led conference: Scaling up a Sustainable Transition: Building back better and greener on Wednesday 9th February 2022, from 14:00 to 16:30 GMT/ 15:00 to 17:30 CET / 09:00 to 11:30 EST.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, building back better and greener has become an immediate priority to a sustainable long-term economy recovery. Acknowledging the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the framework to build back better was the first step. Now, it is critical for us to mobilise global actors to scale up efforts and effectively deliver on the 2030 Agenda.

A transition in scale depends on shifting financial markets to enable a global sustainable transition. And mobilising private sector investment requires stronger policy coherence securing a conducive environment and the right mix of incentives that drive the flow of capital at speed to which SDGs investment matters most, particularly in emerging economies.

This session will convene Parliamentarians, business leaders, and policy makers to discuss practical initiatives and pivotal apparatuses needed for the mobilisation of private sector financing to level up the 2030 agenda.

Chaired by both Theo Clarke MP and Rt Hon Lord McConnell of Glenscorrodale, the Co-Chairs of APPG on UN Global Goals, the session will include the following speakers:

  • Mark Carney, UN Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance and the Prime Minister’s Finance Adviser for COP26

  • Dame Elizabeth Corley, Chair, Impact Investing Institute

  • Catherine McGuinness, Chair of the Policy and Resources Committee, City of London
